PROCESS

1_CURRENT STATE. The site is located in front of the cathedral, where can be found library and media library buildings. One of the buildings is a medieval bishopric, which is built against the wall and is a declared heritage; therefore, this building must be maintained.

2_BUILDING DEMOLITION. Library building will be turn down, and the remaining space will be studied. The surrounding buildings median are characteristics, and being one of the most important features of the architecture of the city of Bayonne, the new buildings will have to respond this medians.

3_EXTENSION OF THE AXES. In order to respond to these medians, they will be used as axes, expanding them to the square in front of the cathedral. These axes will structure the building of the museum and the outdoor public spaces.

4_ADAPT THE AXES. If we extend the axes straightly, they don't adapt to our needs, so we make some movements. In one hand, they will be moved because of the stairs of the historical buildings, to create a wider space and in the other hand, to highlight the two entrances.

5_COMPLETE THE BUILDING AND THE PUBLIC SPACE. The building will be shaped according to these axes, always taking into account the needs of the public spaces and the museum itself. Because of that, the result is an irregular building.

PROCESO

1_ESTADO ACTUAL. El emplazamiento se encuentra en frente de la catedral, donde se encuentran varios edificios cuyos usos son de biblioteca y mediateca. Uno de los edificios es un obispado medieval, que está construido contra la muralla y declarado como patrimonio; por ello, este edificio deberá ser mantenido.

2_DEMOLICIÓN DEL EDIFICIO. El edificio de la biblioteca será demolido, y el espacio restante será analizado. Las medianeras de los edificios colindantes son característicos, y siendo una de las características más importantes de la arquitectura de Bayona, el nuevo edificio deberá responder a estas medianeras.

3_EXTENSIÓN DE LOS EJES. Para dar respuesta a esas medianeras, éstas se utilizarán como ejes, alargándolos hasta la plaza que queda delante de la catedral. Estos ejes estructurarán el edificio del museo y el espacio público exterior.

4_ADAPTAR LOS EJES. Si alargamos los ejes rectamente, éstos no se adaptan a nuestras necesidades, para lo que provocamos unos movimientos. Por un lado, los movemos por las escaleras del edificio histórico, y así crear un espacio más amplio, y por otro lado, para marcar bien las dos entradas.

5_COMPLETAR EL EDIFICIO Y EL ESPACIO PÚBLICO. Al edificio se le dará forma según los ejes, teniendo en cuenta las necesidades del espacio público y del museo mismo. Así, el resultado será un edificio de forma irregular.
